Course Overview: This is a nationally recognised course providing participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP) with a boom length 11 metres or more in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements.

Persons performing work from a Boom Type EWP with a boom length of 11m or more are required to hold a boom-type elevating work platform HRWL.

On completion of this course successful participants can undertake an assessment undertaken by a WHSQ Accredited Assessor to gain a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate this plant.

What is a Boom Type EWP?: A Boom-type elevating work platform means: A telescoping device, hinged device, or articulated device, or any combination of these, used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment and materials may be elevated.

Target Audience: Construction workers, Telecommunications workers, Electrical Contractors required to make application for a High Risk Workm License (HRWL) to operate a boom type EWP (boom lenth ovver 11m) to perform building, construction, maintenace works.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring:

Physical Fitness: Participants will be required to complete involved in physical activities to inspect, operate and pack up an EWP

Participants must have adequate physical fitness to:

Access an EWP basket.
Bend and kneel to conduct pre-start checks.
Lift and carry worksite equipment and EWP dunnage .

If you feel it would be difficult for you to participate or perform basic tasks, please contact our administration office prior to training.

Oral communication: This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read and understand english and basic calculations.

Participants must be able to communicate in the english language and actively participate in verbal communication.

Writing: Participants must be able to complete simple written forms or records to provide information and complete basic forms.

Numeracy: Participants must be able to understand basic math and formulas to calculate weights.

Digital Skills: Participants must be able to use a portable handheld device, laptop or PC to access and navigate the internet and complete basic forms.

Participants must supply:

Photographic identification
Hi Vis clothing, protective footwear (steel capped boots)
USI Number

Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this unit of competency, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

Safely operate a boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP) where the length of the boom is 11 metres or more in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements including:

Preparing for the work/task
Performing work/task
Packing up the EWP
Planning for the work/task

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations

HRWL Assessment: Assessment for the High Risk Work License is conducted by a WHSQ Accredited Assessor

On Completion: Participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0005 License to operate a boom type elevating work platform (boom length 11 meters or more).

What I really liked was that they didn’t just run through the course material and send us on our way. They took the time to explain why things are done a certain way and made sure everyone actually understood what they were doing before moving on.

Both of them brought a lot of real-world knowledge and experience into the training, which made a massive difference. The practical side was excellent and they were always happy to answer questions or go back over something if anyone wasn’t sure.

The training was professional but also relaxed enough that you felt comfortable asking questions and getting involved. I came away from the courses with a much better understanding and confidence in what I had been taught.

A big thanks to Wayne and Graeme for the effort they put in. Definitely some of the best hands-on training I’ve done and I’d highly recommend them both.
