Course Overview: This nationally recognised course is designed for Transmission workers who are required to act as Safety Observers/ Rescuers of injured personnel from a tower structure.
It includes the organisational workplace requirements for the inspection and use of tower rescue equipment, and how it applies to ESI workers to meet work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS), mobility and mutual aid requirements.
Target Audience: Transmission workers performing works or acting as Safety observers / Authorised persons / Spotters where works are being performed up to the defined safe approach distance near energised electrical apparatus (transmission towers).

Entry Requirements/What to Bring:
Physical Fitness: Participants will be required to complete physical activities to access and climb a tower/ladder to perform a tower rescue.
Participants must have adequate physical fitness to:
- Inspect and assemble rescue kit.
- Access and climb a tower to a height of upt to 6m.
- Perform tower rescue to industry standards.
- Lift, reposition and lower a rescue dummy up to 50kg in weight to attach to rescue device.
- Lift, carry or drag a rescue dummy up to 50kg in weight to a safe area.
- Bend or kneel to access casualties condition.
If you feel it would be difficult for you to participate or perform basic tasks, please contact our administration office prior to training.
Oral communication: This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read and understand english and basic calculations. Participants must be able to communicate in the english language and actively participate in verbal communication.
Writing: Participants must be able to complete simple written forms or records to provide information and complete basic forms.
Numeracy: Participants must be able to understand basic math and formulas to calculate heights and weights.
Digital Skills: Participants must be able to use a portable handheld device (tablet), laptop or PC to access and navigate the internet and complete basic forms.
Participants must supply:
- Proof of holding pre-requsite unit.
- Photographic identification.
- Hi Vis clothing, protective footwear (steel capped boots)..
- USI Number.

Participants complete theory and practical training and assessment in a suitable environment at our premises or in their workplace.

Learning Outcomes
At the completion of this unit of competency, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Identify organisational rescue requirements
- Identify hazards, assess risks and apply control measures
- Confirm voltage(s) and related safe approach distance(s)
- Confirm safety observer roles and responsibilities
- Assess emergency situation
- Obtain, inspect and position rescue equipment
- Activate emergency response
- Access tower
- Attach rescue equipment
- Lower casualty safely to the ground
- Remove casualty to a safe location
- Assess casualty’s condition
- Secure incident site
- Report incident according to workplace requirements

Assessment
Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.
On Completion: Participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for UETDRMP020 Perform Tower Rescue.
