Course Currency Status: (Release 1) Current

Course Overview: This nationally recognised course has been designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform.

This course applies to participants working in operational roles that involving the use of elevating work platforms.

Target Audience: Construction workers, Telecommunications workers, Electrical Contractors required to operate an EWP to perform building, construction, maintenace works.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring:

Physical Fitness: Participants will be required to complete physical activities to inspect, operate and pack up an EWP

Participants must have adequate physical fitness to:

  • Access an EWP basket.
  • Bend and kneel to conduct pre-start checks.

If you feel it would be difficult for you to participate or perform basic tasks, please contact our administration office prior to training.

Oral communication: This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read and understand english and basic calculations.

  • Participants must be able to communicate in the english language and actively participate in verbal communication.

Writing: Participants must be able to complete simple written forms or records to provide information and complete basic forms.

Numeracy: Participants must be able to understand basic math and formulas to calculate weights.

Digital Skills: Participants must be able to use a portable handheld device, laptop or PC to access and navigate the internet and complete basic forms.

Participants must supply:

  • Photographic identification
  • Hi Vis clothing, protective footwear (steel capped boots)
  • USI Number

Learning Outcomes

    This course provides students with the ability to operate an elevating work platform that safely, effectively and efficiently following legislative requirements and workplace procedures to carry out work activities including:

    • Locating and applying required documentation, policies and procedures
    • Selecting and wearing personal protective equipment required for work activities
    • Monitoring and managing equipment performance using indicators and alarms
    • Using a range of communication techniques and equipment essential to the safe completion of work instructions
    • Meeting written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures associated with operating an elevating work platform

    Understanding of key policies, procedures and relevant standards for operating an elevating work platform including:

    • National Standard for high risk work
    • Safe work practices
    • Operating manuals for elevating work platform
    • Site personnel and operational safety requirements
    • Elevating work platform operational procedures
    • Hazard, incident and emergency identification and implementation of control measures, including the risk of overhead crushes, and distance from power lines
    • Disposal of hazardous materials

    EWP selection and site setup information, including:

    • Suitability of ground conditions, terrain and structure surfaces
    • Environmental requirements and constraints related to elevating work platforms
    • Types of elevating work platforms, their characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

    Assessment

    Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations

    On Completion: Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform
