Course Currency Status: (Release 1) Current

Course Overview: This nationally recognised course designed to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to operate a boom type elevating work platform less than 11 metres boom length Including:

• Inspecting and testing the fucntions of an elevating work platform.
• Assessing job, task and work requirements.
• Implementing planned hazard controls and strategies.
• Planning work and setting up an EWP.
• Operation of an EWP whilst elevated.
• Packing up EWP after operations.
• Conducting post use checks to ensure EWP has not been damaged.

Target Audience: New and existing Construction, Telecommunications workers and Electrical Contractors required to operate an EWP under 11m to perform building, construction and maintenance works.

Physical Fitness: Participants will be required to complete physical activities to inspect, operate and pack up an EWP

Participants must have adequate physical fitness to:

• Access an EWP basket.
• Bend and kneel to conduct pre-start checks.
• Lift and carry worksite equipment and EWP dunnage .

Oral communication: This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read and understand english and basic calculations.

• Participants must be able to communicate in the english language and actively participate in verbal communication.

Writing: Participants must be able to complete simple written forms or records to provide information and complete basic forms.

Numeracy: Participants must be able to understand basic math and formulas to calculate weights.

Digital Skills: Participants must be able to use a portable handheld device, laptop or PC to access and navigate the internet and complete basic forms.

Participants must supply:

• Photographic identification
• Hi Vis clothing, protective footwear (steel capped boots)
• USI Number

• Complete relevant documentation
• Identifying and correctly using equipment, processes and procedures
• Interpret and follow operational instructions, implement contingency plans when required
• Modify activities depending on operational contingencies, risk situations and environments
• Monitor performance of equipment and work activities as per planned schedule
• Operate and adapt to differences in equipment in accordance with workplace operating procedures
• Plan works, predict consequences and identify improvements
• Report and/or rectify identified problems, faults or malfunctions promptly, in accordance with regulatory requirements and workplace procedures
• Select and use personal protective equipment conforming to industry and work health and safety (WHS)/occupational health and safety (OHS) standards
• Service equipment in terms of maintenance schedule and workplace operating procedures
• Work systematically with required attention to detail without injury to self or others, or damage to goods or equipment.

Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations. 

On Completion: Participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for TLID3035 Operate a boom type elevating work platform.
