Operate a boom type elevating work platform

Overview

Course Currency Status: (Release 1) Current

Course Overview: This nationally recognised course is designed to provide EWP operators with the skills and knowledge required to operate a boom type elevating work platform less than 11 metres boom length, in accordance with relevant state/territory licence/permit requirements and regulations, in a variety of operational contexts.

It includes inspecting and testing elevating work platforms, assessing job and work requirements, planning works and setting up for lift, and carrying out elevation. It also includes implementing planned hazard controls and strategies, and packing up work platform after operations.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this training course.

Target Audience: Workers who are required to perform work from an EWP or scissor lift.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring:

Physical Fitness: Participants will be required to complete involved in physical activities to inspect, operate and pack up an EWP

Participants must have adequate physical fitness to:

  • Access an EWP basket.
  • Bend and kneel to conduct pre-start checks.
  • Lift and carry worksite equipment and EWP dunnage .

If you feel it would be difficult for you to participate or perform basic tasks, please contact our administration office prior to training.

Oral communication: This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read and understand english and basic calculations.

  • Participants must be able to communicate in the english language and actively participate in verbal communication.

Writing: Participants must be able to complete simple written forms or records to provide information and complete basic forms.

Numeracy: Participants must be able to understand basic math and formulas to calculate weights.

Digital Skills: Participants must be able to use a portable handheld device (tablet), laptop or PC to access and navigate the internet and complete basic forms.

Participants must supply:

  • Photographic identification
  • Hi Vis clothing, protective footwear (steel capped boots)
  • USI Number

    • Capability on boom type elevating work platform compliance plate
      operational work systems and equipment
    • Problems that may arise when operating a boom type elevating work platform and actions that should be taken to prevent or solve these problems
    • Relevant road rules, regulations, permit and licence requirements for boom type elevating work platform operation
    • Relevant WHS/OHS and environmental procedures and regulations
      risks and hazards involved in operating a boom type elevating work
    • Platform and associated action that can be taken to eliminate or minimise the risk/hazards concerned
    • Wind speed equipment capability (wind loading)
    • Workplace procedures for operating a boom type elevating work platform less than 11 metres boom length, at a worksite.

    Assessment

    Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations

    On Completion: Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for TLID3035 Operate a boom type elevating work platform.
