Course Overview:

This course has been designed to provide the skills and knowledge required to operate an elevating work platform.

This course applies to those working in operational roles that involve the use of elevating work platforms.

Target Audience: Telco, Electrical Contractors and construction industry workers required to operate and EWP to perform work.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number on enrolment and provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read, write and understand English and basic calculations

Pre-requisites: There are no prerequisite competencies to this unit.

Delivery Mode: This course may be delivered by face to face delivery or blended learning

Duration: Initial Training: 8hrs.

Learning Outcomes

This course provides students with the ability to operate an elevating work platform that safely, effectively and efficiently following legislative requirements and workplace procedures to carry out work activities including:

    • Locating and applying required documentation, policies and procedures
    • Selecting and wearing personal protective equipment required for work activities
    • Monitoring and managing equipment performance using indicators and alarms
    • Using a range of communication techniques and equipment essential to the safe completion of work instructions
    • Meeting written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures associated with operating an elevating work platform

    Understanding of key policies, procedures and relevant standards for operating an elevating work platform including:

    • National Standard for high risk work
    • Safe work practices
    • Operating manuals for elevating work platform
    • Site personnel and operational safety requirements
    • Elevating work platform operational procedures
    • Hazard, incident and emergency identification and implementation of control measures, including the risk of overhead crushes, and distance from power lines
    • Disposal of hazardous materials

    EWP selection and site setup information, including:

    • Suitability of ground conditions, terrain and structure surfaces
    • Environmental requirements and constraints related to elevating work platforms
    • Types of elevating work platforms, their characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations

Assessment: Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations

On Completion: Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for RIIHAN301E Operate elevating work platform

TLID3035 – Operate a boom type elevating work platform 

Course Currency Status: (Release 1) Current

Course Overview: This course is designed to provide EWP operators with the skills and knowledge required to operate a boom type elevating work platform less than 11 metres boom length, in accordance with relevant state/territory licence/permit requirements and regulations, in a variety of operational contexts.

It includes inspecting and testing elevating work platforms, assessing job and work requirements, planning works and setting up for lift, and carrying out elevation. It also includes implementing planned hazard controls and strategies, and packing up work platform after operations.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this training course.

Target Audience: Workers who are required to perform work from an EWP or scissor lift.

Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read, write and understand English and basic calculations.

  • Capability on boom type elevating work platform compliance plate
    operational work systems and equipment
  • Problems that may arise when operating a boom type elevating work platform and actions that should be taken to prevent or solve these problems
  • Relevant road rules, regulations, permit and licence requirements for boom type elevating work platform operation
  • Relevant WHS/OHS and environmental procedures and regulations
    risks and hazards involved in operating a boom type elevating work
  • Platform and associated action that can be taken to eliminate or minimise the risk/hazards concerned
  • Wind speed equipment capability (wind loading)
  • Workplace procedures for operating a boom type elevating work platform less than 11 metres boom length, at a worksite.

Upon Completion: Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for UETDRMP002 Apply ESI safety rules, codes of practice and procedures for work on or near electrical apparatus

TLILIC0005 – Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)

HRWL (WP)

Course Currency Status: (Release 2) Current 

Course Overview: This course is designed  to provide the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP) where the length of the boom is 11 metres or more in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements.

What is a Boom-type elevating work platform? A boom type EWP is a telescoping device, hinged device, or articulated device, or any combination of these, used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment and materials may be elevated.

A person performing this work is required to hold a boom-type elevating work platform HRWL.

Competence in this unit, does not in itself result in a Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate this plant.

Target Audience: Construction, electrical and general workers who are required to gain a HRWL for an EWP over 11m.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number on enrolment and provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read, write and understand English and basic calculations. 

Prerequisites: There are no pre-requisites for this training

Delivery Mode: This course is delivered by face to face 

Duration: Initial Training: 3 Days                    

Learning Outcomes: At the completion of this unit of competency, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to:   

Types and application of PPE

Organisational procedures for tower rescue including:

  • Inspection and placement of EWP’s
  • Assessment and control hazards to EWP operator and others
  • Isolation procedures, where appropriate
  • Safe approach distances (SAD) appropriate to EWP opoerations
  • Assessment of site and EWP set up procedures 
  • Activation of emergency response relevant to situation
  • EWP selection, inspection, operation and close down
  • Attachment of PPE and equipment required for works
  • Lowering of an injured operator in the EWP safely to ground
  • Reporting requirements.

Assessment: Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations. 

On Completion: Participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for TLILIC0005 License to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11m or more)

Cost: Initial Training: $625.00 per participant
