Course Overview

This course is designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills about current legislation and their basic duty of care for locating underground services, prior to the commencement of any excavation works. The identify, locate and protect underground services course is an integral piece of training for many civil construction workers.

You will review Dial Before You Dig Plans to gain a better understanding, your trainer will provide a demonstration using a locating device such as a cable avoidance tool to search for known or potential services or utilities inclusive of Telstra, Electrical, Optic Fibre etc. which may exist under the surface of worksites within the road reserve.

Discuss and understand the management of risks arising from presence of above-ground, overhead, and underground services in vicinity of workplaces and in particular the use of safe working procedures (SWMS).

Training sessions will include procedures, controls and emergency response requirements for those hazards present at the site, determined through risk assessment.

Dial Before You Dig Plans will be available for the training venue. Where training os conducted at the clients site client site Intuitive Training will access DBYD plans before course commencement.

Target Audience
Telco, Electrical and NBN workers who are required to identify, locate & protect underground services in preparation for civil and rail infrastructure work

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number on enrolment, provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read, write and understand English and basic calculation

Prerequisites: Nil

Delivery Mode: This course may be delivered by face to face delivery or blended learning

Duration: Initial Training: 1 day with workplace activities to be logged and returned for assessment or 2 days including activities and assessment.

  • Carry out operational, maintenance and basic diagnostic procedures
  • Read Dial Before You Dig Plans and have knowledge on how to be obtain them
  • Knowledge of use of underground services device

Assessment: Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.

On Completion: Upon successful completion, participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for RIICCM202D ‐ Identify, Locate & Protect Underground Services
