Energex Authorisation Courses

Intuitive Training has licensed specific Energex courses to increase our service offerings for our valued clientele. Electricians and other workers who need to gain access to the Energex network are required to complete specific training before being permitted to work on the network. In completing Energex licensed courses with Intuitive Training you can be sure that your staff are compliant with Energex authorisation requirements allowing easy access to the Energex network.

M292 Connections to the LV Network

M292 Connections to the LV Network

Course Overview: This is an Energex approved training course designed for electrical contractors and their staff who access the Energex LV network and are required to make and or break connections as part of their works.

Target Audience: Electrical contractors, electricians/ line workers within the ESI industry required to establish, replace or repair connections to the Energex LV network.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number and photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course requires participants to hold a current electrical license and be or work for an approved Energex contract service provider.

Prerequisites: Nil

Delivery Mode: This course is delivered by face to face delivery.

Duration: 3 days (24 hours)

Training Content:

  • MEN system
  • Awareness of regulation voltages applicable in Queensland
  • Testing of connections to the LV electricity network
  • The requirements of Work Practice 1202
  • Test connections to a customer’s premises
  • Complete required documentation in relation to connections to the LV network

Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this module, participants should be able to demonstrate:

  • Describe the MEN system
  • Explain regulation voltages applicable in Queensland
  • Test connections to the LV electricity network
  • Follow the requirements of Work Practice 1202
  • Test connections to a customer’s premises
  • Complete required documentation in relation to connections to the LV network

Assessment:
Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.

On Completion:
Participants will be issued with a Statement of Attendance issued by Intuitive Training and can request to have their results uploaded to Energex training management system. (additional charges may apply)

Working Safely Near Live Electrical Lines and Apparatus (Ergon Course 4490)

Course Overview: This course, Working Safely Near Electric Lines and Apparatus and is approved by Energy Queensland (Ergon & Energex). The purpose of this course is to provide workers with the knowledge and skills required to work, supervise and/or manage those who may be required to work in the vicinity of live electrical equipment  

Target Audience: New and existing workers in the ESI / construction / telco industries /  local government agencies / contracting companies, including safety observers / spotters, construction and maintenance workers required to identify overhead network hardware, apparatus and powerlines voltages.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number and photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course.

Prerequisites: Nil

Delivery Mode: This course is delivered by face to face delivery.

Duration: 1 day (8 hours)

Training Content:This course provides participants with an understanding of the standards, codes, legislation, supply authority Queensland Energy (Energex/Ergon) regulations and/or enterprise requirements, including:

  • The legislative and safety requirements for working near live electrical apparatus
  • The major components of an electricity network
  • Identification and management/control of the hazards associated with working near live electrical apparatus
  • The basic principles of electricity
  • Identification of electrical apparatus used in overhead distribution systems

Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module participants should be able to

  • Apply appropriate electrical safety and technical knowledge relating to the type of work, operating plant or vehicles near overhead and underground electric lines, including: o Interpret the application and intent of the Electrical Safety Code of Practice 2010 for Working Near Overhead and Underground Electric Lines.
  • Explain basic electrical concepts and the effect of electricity on the human body.
  • Identify hazards that may be present and the risk management procedures required to manage the risks associated with work carried out near overhead and underground power lines.
  • Identify electricity supply infrastructure assets and voltages.
  • Identify the exclusion zones applicable to people, vehicles and operating plant for various power line voltages, conductor and cable types, environmental conditions and authorisation of persons.
  • State the emergency planning, response and reporting procedures required in the event of an electrical incident or accident.

 

Assessment: Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.

On Completion: Participants will be issued with a Statement of Attendance issued by Intuitive Training.

Target Audience: Existing workers in the ESI industry including safety observers / spotters, construction and maintenance workers required to establish, replace or repair connections to the Energex LV network.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number and photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course requires participants to hold a current electrical license and be or work for an approved Energex contract service provider.

Training Content:This course provides participants with an understanding of the standards, codes, legislation, supply authority (Energex) regulations and/or enterprise requirements, including:

  • Legislated obligations to working safely on or in proximity to underground cables and equipment.
  • Fundamental electrical principles.
  • The relationship between transmission, distribution and rail systems, underground and overhead supply
  • Recognition of different types of electrical equipment.
  • Identification and management of environmental issues..

Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module participants should be able to:

  • Apply legislated obligations to working safely on or in proximity to underground cables and equipment.

Course Overview: This is an Energex approved training course designed for electrical contractors and their staff who access the Energex HV / LV network.

Target Audience: New and existing electrical contractors and their staff in the ESI industry who are required to understand and work within a workgroup on the Energex network under the direction of a recipient or an onsite supervisor.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number and provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course.

Prerequisites: Nil

Delivery Mode: This course may be delivered by face to face delivery.

Duration: 1/2 day (4 hours)

Training Content:This course provides participants with an understanding of the standards, codes, legislation, supply authority (Energex) regulations and/or enterprise requirements, including:

  • HV Electrical Safety Principles demonstrate an understanding of Entity and Statutory rules, standards and manuals as appropriate maintain Exclusion Zones identify electrical hazards and appropriate PPE
  • Isolation and Earthing of HV Apparatus identify isolation points identify types of earths
  • HV Access Permits and Your Responsibilities describe the lines of communication associated with access to HV apparatus demonstrate awareness of Access and Test permits perform the roles and responsibilities of an IWG
  • LV De-energisation Permit access low voltage electrical apparatus on the ENERGEX network
  • Working on Non-Commissioned Electrical Apparatus access non-commissioned electrical apparatus on the ENERGEX network

Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate and understanding of HV Electrical Safety Principles
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Entity and Statutory rules, standards and manuals as appropriate

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Earthing of HV Apparatus

Course Overview: This is an Energex approved training course designed for electrical contractors and their staff who access the Energex LV network and are required to make and or break connections as part of their works

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number on enrolment, provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course requires participants to hold a current electrical license and be or work for an approved Energex contract service provider.

Prerequisites: Nil

Delivery Mode: This course may be delivered by face to face delivery.

Duration: 1/2 day (4 hours)

Training Content:This course provides participants with an understanding of the standards, codes, legislation, supply authority (Energex) regulations and/or enterprise requirements, including:

  • The characteristics of wood used for structures within the electrical distribution system,
  • The relationship between timber, water and faults that influence the integrity of the structure,
  • The effects of fungal, termite borer activity and dry rot, and
  • Inspection procedures for deterioration of poles and structures.

Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this module participants should be able to:

  • Describe the legal requirements for pole inspection
  • Apply pole safety practices to pole inspection
  • Identify insect and fungal damage to poles and associated structures
  • Identify common pole defects
  • Inspect poles and associated components and report    findings
  • Discuss the common treatments applied to poles

Assessment:

Course Overview: This is an Energex approved training course designed for electrical contractors and their staff who access the Energex LV network or intend to climb an Energex pole.

Target Audience: Existing workers in the ESI industry including safety observers / spotters, construction and maintenance workers required to establish, replace or repair connections to the Energex LV network.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring: Participants must provide a USI number and provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course.

Training Content:This course provides participants with an understanding of the standards, codes, legislation, supply authority (Energex) regulations and/or enterprise requirements, including:

  • Identification and understanding of the function of components of the overhead distribution network
  • Recognition and identification of defects in overhead distribution lines, plant and equipment using ground-based inspection
  • Recognition and identification of defects in LV underground-supplied service pillars and pits using external inspection
  • Rectification of minor defects in LV underground-supplied service pillars
  • Explanation of the  basic principles of electrical earthing systems
  • Recognition and identification of defects for simple overhead distribution network earthing configurations
  • Measuring earth resistivity and interpreting readings using a clamp-on earth tester
  • Testing and identifying defects in LFIs
  • Recognising and identifying defects in signage for waterway crossings
  • Recording inspection information using a pocket computer and making recommendations for maintenance or follow-up actions
  • Understanding the defect priority process and assigning priority categories
  • Identifying and reporting any potentially serious hazardous conditions observed on distribution network
  • The main safety precautions that apply when performing distribution network condition assessment
  • Resolving and recording any discrepancies between ENERGEX records and site conditions
